EMPLOYEES IN THE
VALUE CHAIN
As part of our double
materiality analysis, we
have identified risks of poor
working conditions for works
within the agricultural and
transport sectors in several
countries where we source
wine and spirits. .
The wine industry often relies on
seasonal workers, some of whom
are migrant labourers. Studies
indicate that these workers
may face long working hours
without breaks, heavy lifting, and
inadequate housing conditions.
We are committed to ensuring
that such working conditions do
not occur among our partners. To
reinforce this, we have developed
a Code of Conduct for Business
Partners, requiring them to sign a
declaration confirming they do not
engage in poor labour practices or
human rights violations.
This Code of Conduct has been
translated into German, Spanish,
French, Italian, English, and Danish
to eliminate language barriers.
During our preliminary materiality
assessment, we interviewed
multiple wineries. Many reported
that they ensure good working
conditions for their seasonal
employees, as they rely on
attracting skilled workers.
An increasing number of wineries
use harvesting machines for grape
picking and vine pruning. This
approach is efficient and effective,
but manual labour remains
necessary for vineyards with
steep slopes and winding rows,
which are common among historic
wine estates.
