Christian Drouin – Calvados with a
Positive CO 2 -Footprint
Christian Drouin is one of the few producers that
achieve a positive CO 2-Footprint balance, contributing
more to carbon absorption than emissions.
With approximately 11,000 apple trees spanning 35 different
varieties and hedgerows, Christian Drouin absorbs 600 tonnes of
CO2 annually.
For every bottle of calvados
sold, there is CO2- savings of
2.95 kg.
”We grow all our apples using organic principles.
That is why we have cows in our orchards—to
fertilise the soil and keep the grass trimmed.
They also eat diseased and fallen apples,
ensuring that only the finest apples are used to
produce our calvados. However, the cows are
smart enough to know that shaking the trees will
cause apples to drop. We simply have to accept
this minor loss.”.
